On 23 September an agreement was concluded under which branches of the Wajda School and Wajda Studio were established in Zyrardow, and the city covered these two with its patronage. The deed was signed by Andrzej Wajda and Wojciech Marczewski - the school's founders, and by Andrzej Wilk, Mayor of the City of Zyrardow.
"The City of Zyrardow turned to us because it wants the Wajda School to find a place for itself there," - said Wojciech Marczewski during a press conference of the Wajda School and Wajda Studio, held during the 36th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. "It seemed to us all the more interesting, as Zyrardow used to be a textile town. This great factory at one point fell. The authorities decided to put turn to culture. Zyrardow is transforming, undergoing fantastic development, and yet there is still much to be done. For us, especially for the documentary filmmakers, breaking out of the big city of Warsaw with its beautiful Old Town streets, and entering this world here offers many new opportunities. We want to observe and participate in the changes taking place there. This is a good place to find real people, real heroes and real problems."
"Let us stand on the side of those who want to be active. This city is looking for a new beginning. Young filmmakers ought to look at this" - said Andrzej Wajda during the signing of the agreement deed.
Wojciech Marczewski noted that the actions of School and the Studio in Zyrardow will bring mutual benefits, saying "Our dream is that this is not simply a matter of the place and the premises. We want to participate in the activities of the city, not just teach there. This partnership will have real meaning only when we begin to enter the fabric of the town, when we understand the true value of this place."
Starting this year, some classes will be held in the Kantor office building in Zyrardow.
