French award for "Glasgow" by Piotr Subbotko

"Glasgow", directed by Piotr Subbotko received a Special Jury Prize at the International Film Festival "Tous Courts" held in Aix-en-Provence and Pays d'Aix, France. This is yet another laurel for the short story produced as part of the programme "30 minutes", a joint initiative of the Munk Studio at the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Wajda Studio, TVP Public Television and the Polish Film Institute.

So far, "Glasgow" has won awards such as the Best Short Film Award at the "Golden Apricot" Festival in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, the prize for Best New Artist at the "Message to Man" Festival in St. Petersburg, and the Special Jury Award at the recently concluded International Film Festival in Cottbus, Germany.

"Tous Courts" is a festival focusing on short animated, documentary and feature films. Its 29th Edition closed on 10 December. It is worth noting that, from among the 180 titles competing for the festival's laurels, another film from the Wajda School was also awarded - "End of Summer" by Piotr Stasik (produced by Centrala and TVP).    

"Glasgow" is the directorial debut of Piotr Subbotko, writer, graduate of the DEVELOPMENT LAB fiction programme at the Wajda School. His film tells the story of 12-year-old Damian, who lives in the belief that his father is a famous footballer for the Glasgow Celtic club. During one summer vacation, in order to raise money for a trip to Scotland, Damian works on house renovation with his retired friend Miecio. Having fallen in love with 15-year-old Monika, who is pregnant, he wants to take care of her child and to take them both to a better world. The film features performances by Rafał Garnecki, Sandra Korzeniak, Zygmunt Malanowicz, Adam Graczyk, Filip Garbacz, Jowita Budnik and Marcin Tyrol.
