FILMS FROM THE ANDRZEJ WAJDA SCHOOL AT THE FILM SUMMER FESTIVAL
The Andrzej Wajda Film School will show 6 productions - 2 feature films and 4 documentary films - at this year's 'Film Summer' Film and Art Festival in Warsaw.
Films produced by the Andrzej Wajda Film School will be shown within the Student Etude Contest. These are two feature films produced within the framework of the '30 minutes' programme: 'The Sleepwalkers' by Maciek Sterło-Orlicki and 'On Credit' directed by Przemysław Nowakowski. Also documentary films will be shown: 'Andrzej Wajda: Let's Shoot!' by the Paladino Film Group, Marcin Sauter's 'Behind the Fence', 'Beautiful Misunderstanding' directed by Paweł Ferdek and Jakub Piątek's 'Mother' – a film produced within the frame of the 'First Documentary' Project.
'On Credit' directed by Przemysław Nowakowski is a modern version of medieval legend about two lovers who couldn't see each other because of a curse. In the case of Agnieszka (Magdalena Górska) and Lucek (Łukasz Garlicki) the curse turns out to be a mortgage loan whose payment requires from them more and more commitment to their jobs. After some time they hardly see each other and they contact only through video-letters.
'Sleepwalkers' by Maciek Sterło-Orlicki is a story reminding us that true love is much more important than all hair on our head. The main character – a barber Rafał – does not want to accept the breakdown of his relationship with overworked Kama. He is still living with her parents. One day, to his barbershop there comes Majka, a woman who will turn his life upside down. Cast: Wojciech Mecwaldowski, Sylwia Juszczak, Monika Dryl, Andrzej Grabowski and Ewa Dałkowska.
The goal of the '30 minutes' programme, which was established in 2005 on the initiative of Wojciech Marczewski, is to enable young filmmakers to make their feature film debut in professional conditions. The partners of the programme are: the Andrzej Wajda Film School, the A. Munk 'The Young and Film' Studio which is a part of the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Polish Television and the Polish Film Institute.
'Andrzej Wajda: Let's Shoot!' was produced by the Andrzej Wajda Film School in co-production with Telekomunikacja Polska. It is a portrait of the director shooting the most personal of his films – 'Katyń'. The young filmmakers accompanied him in moments of concentration, fatigue and joy, during talks with his actors and crew. By observing his work on the set, the viewer has a chance to see what Andrzej Wajda really is like – extraordinary for his sensitivity, passion and a feeling of mission.
'Beautiful Misunderstanding' by Paweł Ferdek tells a story of three dancers: Danya from Israel, Renata from Poland and Markus from Germany, who arrive to Jerusalem wanting to comment on the reality and to express their views on the most important - in their opinion – issues by means of street dance. But will the inhabitants of this multicultural and colourful city appreciate their efforts? The film was made as a part of the Triangle Dialogue programme, produced by the Andrzej Wajda Film School, the Polish Film Institute, the IFS Internationale Filmshule Koeln, Germany and the Sam Spiegel Film&TV School in Jerusalem.
Jakub Piątek's 'Mother' is a story of mother who comes to visit her son – in prison. One hour in the prison meeting room, that must suffice for several weeks... The film was produced within the frame of the 'First Documentary' programme - run by the Andrzej Wajda Film School, the A. Munk 'The Young and Film' Studio which is a part of the Polish Filmmakers Association, The Polish Television and the Polish Film Institute.
'Behind the Fence' directed by Marcin Sauter is a film, which allows you to break away from everyday life and to return to the childhood, the time of everlasting holidays and hot summer days. Back then everything seemed to be within one's reach, so many things were to be discovered, so many stories to be explored and each day seemed to last forever ...
