THE RABBIT CLOSER TO OSCARS

The documentary film by our graduate – Bartek Konopka – 'Królik po berlińsku [The Rabbit à la Berlin]' found itself on the short list of short documentary films which can be nominated for an Oscar nomination. The film was supported by the Andrzej Wajda School.

Produced in cooperation with the Andrzej Wajda School, the film by Bartek Konopka 'Królik po berlińsku' is among 8 films which have a chance for an Oscar nomination and it is the only candidate from Poland in the category 'Best Short Documentary Film'. The film is an allegory which brings closer the history of Eastern Europe as seen from a 'rabbit' perspective.

For director Bartek Konopka and cinematographer Piotr Rosołowski it is a second attempt, after 'Ballada o kozie [The Goat Walker]',  to talk about people from the angle of animals. 'Królik po berlińsku' is an international project financed by MDR, RBB and ARTE televisions and by Polish television TVP1. It was also co-financed by: Finnish television YLE, Belgian Lichtpunt and Dutch VPRO. The film was produced with the support of the MEDIA programme, the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing and the Polish Film Institute. The producers are: MS Films, Poland and majade Filmproduktion, Germany. 'Królik po berlińsku' was created by a group of four friends: director Bartek Konopka, cinematographer and co-writer Piotr Rosołowski, producer Anna Wydra and by editor Mateusz Romaszkan.

Bartek Konopka is a graduate of the documentary course and of the EKRAN – a European training  programme for film professionals, conducted by the Andrzej Wajda School.
